Tony´s story -poem

Tony

Worried,
Suspicious
Brave,
And curious

Son of his father
Son of his mother
Brother to siblings

Loves to be safe
To have his family around,
And likes the sound of falling rain

His hands were slippery,
He felt embarrassed,
And his body quivered.

He needs to taste food,
To sense the taste of falling raindrops,
To have a life without fear,

He fears the bad witches,
The shadows of the dark,
He fears the monster with the human bones.

Tony gives away his protecting shield,
An arrowhead around the neck,
He gives a bullet to the beast,
To give it an end and be released.

He wishes to see the eyes of the creature,
To keep on going to the feature,
He wants to experience how it is to be free.

He is a part of a Native tribe
He lives in his house until he dies.

A) I think we watched this episode because it shows us that many people still have some xenophobia against immigrants and coloured people, even though we pretend that it doesn’t exists anymore. The episode is also about a topic we are working with at school, racism. And it shows us how some regular inhabitants draws hasty conclusion based on their prejudices and imaginations.

B) I have a divided view about using humour to approach sensitive topics, I think it depends on what topic it and what kind of humour that is used. In one way it might be easier to use humour because then you can set the issue on the strike, meanwhile you make people laugh about it. In other situations it might not be appropriate to use humour. People can look at you as unserious, and that you don´t bother about it.
